Testing Monogoto NTN in Taiwan – Signal Coverage Inquiry

Hi Monogoto team,

I’m currently performing NTN tests in Taipei, Taiwan using an nRF9151 module.
In an open outdoor environment, the LTE signal quality looks good:

+CESQ: 99,99,255,255,18,57

LTE connectivity works normally.

However, under NTN mode we observe:

+CESQ: 99,99,255,255,4,7

Even with this level, NTN communication almost never succeeds.
Most of the time, the modem reports:

+CESQ: 99,99,255,255,255,255

My questions are:

  1. Does Monogoto currently provide NTN coverage in Taiwan?
  2. What is the current global coverage footprint for Monogoto’s NTN service?
  3. Do you have any recommended testing steps, configuration guidelines, or known limitations when testing NTN in East Asia?

Any testing suggestions or reference materials would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks a lot for your support!

Hi @deershika,

The NTN data goes via our satellite partner Skylo. Taiwan is not officially supported yet, as shown on Skylo’s website: Geographical Coverage.
Though I’ve heard the network is available for testing, so you might be able to get some reception in your area, but connectivity is not yet guaranteed.

From experience, it’s important not just to be outside, but also to be away from high-rise buildings as these can also block the signal.

For more information, have a look at Monogoto’s documentation page on NTN: NTN Satellite Networks | Monogoto

Note: We’re currently testing NTN with the nRF9151 hardware, we didn’t yet publish getting started guides as the official modem firmware is not yet released. I’m expecting this to happen early 2026.

If you have interesting findings yourself, don’t hesitate to share them here on the forum for others to use!

Thanks!

Thank you for the clarification.
Based on the Geographical Coverage information you provided, it’s clear that Taiwan is not yet officially supported for NTN.

I will plan to perform additional tests in the United States, where coverage is confirmed.

Thanks again for your help!

Skylo uses GEO satellites, located in the Earth equator.
Taiwan is in the North Hemisphere.
Then, you must have clear view oriented to the South.

You can calculate the exact Azimuth and Elevation using tools like dishpointer.com
Skylo uses Echostar 21 satellite for Europe region, but I don’t know the exact satellite for APAC region.
